Access notes for Cinton River - Controlled Fishery
The Clinton River upstream of 'Praire Flat' is available to Milford Track trampers to fish on a regular sportsfishing licence and operates under usual angler ettiquette. While the Clinton River, including all tributaries, downstream of Prairie Flat is a Controlled Fishery, which means you need a Controlled Period Licence (CPL) to fish it. To get a CPL you first need to be successful in the ballot for one of the fishing beats. See the link below for details. Access is via private vessel or the Milford Track water taxi which runs between Te Anau Downs and Glade House Jetty. Anglers are also required to get a Clean Gear Certificate prior to their trip to ensure there is no further spread of Didymo. Note, watercraft such a kayaks and packrafts are prohibited on the Clinton River.
