KiwiTools guide

Editorial policy

Calculations should be testable, claims supportable, assumptions visible and limitations easy to find.

Calculation quality

Core calculation logic is separated from page presentation where practical and checked against known scenarios. Changes to a formula, maintained rule or shared configuration should be reviewed together with affected pages, examples and tests before publication.

Sources and attribution

Material external facts should come from relevant primary or authoritative sources. New Zealand government agencies, regulators and first-party documentation are preferred. Each tool or guide should link to the sources relevant to its own rules and context rather than relying only on a general sources page.

Inputs, presets and external data

User-entered values and editable presets must not be presented as verified facts, current offers or national averages. External datasets such as address matches, school zones and public-holiday dates must be described according to what they can establish, including update and boundary limitations.

Clear limitations

Financial and property tools must not imply approval, eligibility, valuation or personalised advice. Energy, transport and comparison tools must not imply an exact bill, quote, product price or future outcome. Checkers and planners must explain when confirmation with an official source is necessary.

Corrections and review

Material errors should be corrected promptly across calculation logic, configuration, tests and explanatory content. A correction or changed official rule should not leave contradictory examples or stale claims elsewhere in the application. Users can report suspected issues through the contact form.

Commercial independence

Advertising, referral arrangements or commercial relationships must not alter calculator results or hide material assumptions. Any paid placement introduced in future must be clearly distinguishable from tools and editorial content.

Estimate only: Calculator results are estimates based on the values entered and the assumptions shown. Check important decisions against the relevant provider or official source.
