Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
Heading clockwise from the car park, the track goes past the lookout turn-off and descends toward the shoreline through remnant beech and ferns. It then sidles around Cullen Point to the Mahau Sound side, where regenerating kānuka dominates the bush. The track climbs steadily back to the car park, with slips and clearings offering scenic views of the sound. The lookout track is short and offer views of Pelorus Sound and Havelock and can be walked at the start or end of the track.
The tracks start from a well-marked car park located 5.5 km down Queen Charlotte Drive from Havelock Township. Queen Charlotte Drive is restricted to vehicles less than a combined length of 12.6 m only due to major flood damage from storms in August 2022. Use this location on Google Maps to help find your way there.
