Track description This is a very short, well-constructed track in a small patch of bush, but it is heaving with wildlife – both flora and fauna. The path is flat and suitable for those using wheelchairs, or prams. It’s a lovely walk for children and those with less mobility. There are even places to sit on the walk, which makes it enjoyable for everyone. The reserve is full of ancient trees, having never been felled for farming. Bring your binoculars if you have them for spotting native birds. You can take a picnic with you as there’s a picnic area at the start of the track, but no toilet facilities. You may be fine for cell coverage, but it is not guaranteed. Getting there It’s about a 10 minute drive east of Whanganui town centre. Follow Wakefield Street out of town to No 3 Line. The reserve is on the corner of Kaimatira Road and No 3 Line. There’s plenty of parking in the carpark. Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there.
