Track Description This is a lovely walk to help break up the driving along the North Island section of State Highway 1. You’ll likely have it to yourself, as it’s a less popular walk. The track meanders up steeply through native bush, with over 80m elevation change. Wear footwear with good grip and ankle support, as the track can be very slippery and muddy. The track is not well maintained and at the time of writing, part of the track is closed off to a ‘there and back again’ walk. Children have completed this walk, but others find the steep hill, the muddy terrain, and the overgrown track to be challenging. This isn’t suitable for prams or wheelchairs as there are some steps on the track. Toilets are located in Mangaweka township. Getting There The track start is a 2-minute drive from Mangaweka. There is a bit of a gravel area across the road from the track start, where 3 or 4 vehicles can park. Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there.
