Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
This track starts from a gate entrance behind the cob cottage. It goes across a paddock to a point for views of Molesworth Homestead and the surrounding farm buildings. For visitors who have travelled up the Awatere Valley, the original cob homestead built by John Murphy in 1866 is the gateway to Molesworth where the Acheron Road begins. If the road is closed, don't go any further. Acheron Road is open 7 am – 7 pm daily from 1 October to Easter Monday or the second Sunday in April – whichever is later. Acheron Road can close without warning. Use this location on Google Maps to help find your way there.
No dogs.
Track information, access and weather can change. Confirm current alerts and land-manager information close to departure, tell someone your plans, and carry equipment appropriate for the route and conditions.
