Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
The path is well maintained and is flat the whole way. It is suitable for toddlers and those with some mobility issues, although care still needs to be taken with footing, as the track drops steeply from the sides in some places. This wetland area contains many native plants and birds. Look out for mātātā/fernbird, pūkeko, and pāpango/scaup. Views extend across the Taieri Plain. The walk crosses two small bridges and culminates at a viewing platform. Return the way you came.
The start of the track is over the railway line. Look out for trains before crossing. There are no toilets or water facilities on this track. The nearest toilets are located in Waihola township.
From Dunedin, start looking out for the right hand turn to Titri Road as soon as you cross the Waipori River Bridge on State Highway 1. There is a sign pointing to the Millenium Track on the left, but the road you want turns to the right. It is on a sharp bend of the highway. This is a difficult turn to make, so take care. The access is easier from the south. From Waihola township, turn left down Titri Road and follow the road for about 3 minutes to reach the car park. Use this location in Google maps to find your way there.
