Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
Track description The track is rough in places and not well marked. Two mine entrances are located next to the track. Rockfalls make these potentially dangerous to enter. At the northeastern end of the track there is a stream crossing, again not well marked, which can be difficult to cross without getting wet feet. If the river is swollen, the crossing should not be attempted, as the stream can flow quite swiftly at this point. Either return the way you came, or carefully return along the road. Getting there From SH25, 7 km south of Whangamata on the Coromandel Peninsula, turn onto Wentworth Valley Road. The parking area is at the end of the road on the left. The access to the campground office on the right. Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there. Note: Wentworth Valley Rd has a ford which should be passable by any vehicle except after heavy rain.
