Which electricity figure belongs in which calculation
For an appliance estimate, use the variable import rate that applies when it runs. An average whole-bill rate quietly mixes fixed charges into every kWh.

Use the marginal rate for one more appliance
If the bill lists 29.4 cents per kWh for ordinary use, that is the natural rate for estimating an extra heater hour in that band. Do not divide the whole bill by kWh and feed the result back into every appliance calculation; that average includes fixed charges.

Time-of-use plans have more than one correct rate
A dryer running at 6 pm may use the peak rate; the same cycle overnight may use off-peak. Split consumption by band instead of averaging prices while leaving all use in one bucket.
Controlled hot water and solar exports can have their own registers. Copy the line that matches the flow of electricity being modelled.

An appliance estimate answers what additional usage costs. A bill estimate adds the fixed daily charge, days, credits and any other line items.
Keep those questions separate. Fixed costs matter when comparing retailers, but they do not make a kettle more expensive each time it boils.

Dividing a total bill by usage spreads daily charges and other adjustments across each kWh. Lower usage can therefore produce a higher all-in average rate.
