Starting from Booms Flat Campsite in the Kauaeranga Valley, this track climbs steadily uphill. After about an hour you’ll pass a large kauri tree, which can be a worthwhile short walk on its own. Continue for 6 km to the Karaka Track to Crosbies Hut junction, from where it’s a further 30 minutes to Crosbies Hut . The route is steep in places and can be slippery and muddy when wet, making it a challenging option that requires a reasonable to advanced level of fitness.
