Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
This is a pleasant out-and-back walk through the ngahere (bush) with a couple of beautiful views and is suitable for experienced hikers with good shoes. Be prepared for an unmaintained track with a pretty long and steep climb up and a slippery climb down with some collapsed paths along the way. Slips are common in this unstable erosion prone area, sometimes resulting in track closures. Please check the Alerts tab above to see if there are any notifications. This track continues on as the Coppermine Loop Track which is a more strenuous return option.
Coppermine Road is located 10 km from Woodville. Woodville is 85 km from Napier on State Highway 2. Travel north east from Woodville along Pinfold Road for 9 km, then turn left into Coppermine Road. This track is accessed from the road end. Use this location on Google Maps to help find your way there.
