Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
From the Whangaiterenga Campsite, cross the concrete ford and follow the well-formed metal track through manuka and towai forest. The path climbs steadily to a saddle and rocky outcrop, where a bench seat provides a great spot to rest and take in the wide 180 degree views across the Kauaeranga Valley, the river, Booms Campsite and the surrounding forested hills. The outcrop is also a popular site for local abseiling. This short walk is family friendly and suitable for dogs, provided they are kept on a leash. Use this location on Google Maps to help find your way there.
Dogs on a leash only.
