Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
From Wharf Road access, arrive at a shoe cleaning station. After a short climb and a few sets of steps the track crosses a mountain biking track twice. The incline is now gentler and the track meanders through regenerating bush and young kauris towards a fork. A short detour to the right leads to the pa site lookout, where the best views await. On the main path again, the track starts its gentle descent towards Harbour View road where there is another shoe cleaning station. This track can be done in either direction. The 600 kauri planted on the site are dedicated to the people of Christchurch following the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011.
Shoe cleaning stations to prevent the spread of kauri dieback disease are present at the beginning and end of the track Take care when crossing the mountain bike track Dogs allowed on leash
Clean your footwear, tyres and equipment before and after visiting our kauri forests. If you are walking your dog, you should also make sure you clean their paws. Use cleaning stations every time you pass one while you are walking in a park. Stay on the tracks and keep off kauri roots. Stay away from closed tracks. Don't remove soil from, or bring soil into, areas with kauri trees.
Parking is available at either end of the track. Coromandel township end From the township, head towards the wharf. The track starts between the houses at 350 and 360 Wharf Road. Parking is available opposite the trail. Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there. Harbourview Road end From Coromandel Township, head west on Wharf Rd. Continue onto Long Bay Rd. Turn right onto Harbour View Rd parking area. Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there.
