Track Description This largely unknown track through Waikato bushland is graded as a tramping track, even though it’s short. The walking is rough compared with most family walks and tramping boots are advised, especially after rain and in the winter. The hike is steep, but walkers may be rewarded with hearing the North Island kōkako, one of New Zealand’s endangered birds. An information panel is located at the carpark. The track begins by crossing a wide bridge. There are no toilets or eating facilities are located at the trailhead. Not all cell phone providers maintain coverage of the area. You may not have reception while doing this track, so consider taking an emergency locator beacon with you. Getting There It’s about a half an hour’s drive from Te Kuiti. The last part of the journey is on a gravel road. Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there.
