Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
This short walk begins at the northern end of Rarangi Beach and winds around a rocky point to Monkey Bay, a small, sheltered beach. Early on, a lookout offers sweeping views and interpretation panels explaining how sea currents have shaped Rarangi Beach over thousands of years. Be aware the track runs close to steep, unfenced drop-offs, so stick to the formed path and supervise children closely. Hot, dry weather and strong, cold winds are common, so come prepared. Wasps may also be present, particularly in late summer and autumn. Use this location on Google Maps to help find your way there.
Dogs allowed. Keep dog under control at all times.
Track information, access and weather can change. Confirm current alerts and land-manager information close to departure, tell someone your plans, and carry equipment appropriate for the route and conditions.
