Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
Opoutere Beach stretches for over 5 km of unspoilt white sand, with rolling surf and the calm waters of Wharekawa Harbour. Dogs and vehicles are not permitted. Some fenced-off areas protect eggs laid in shallow scrapes in the sand, so do not enter these zones. The beach can be dangerous, with strong rips, so take care if entering the water. Use this location on Google Maps to help find your way there.
Dogs allowed. Keep dog under control at all times.
Track information, access and weather can change. Confirm current alerts and land-manager information close to departure, tell someone your plans, and carry equipment appropriate for the route and conditions.
