New Zealand personalised plates
Trailer and caravan personalised plate ideas NZ
A trailer plate has only five characters available, so the strongest ideas start small. Use a towing reference, compact caravan nickname, work purpose or owner initials, then check whether the result still reads naturally without spaces.

Worked examples
Trailer ideas that fit five characters
Each example respects the trailer limit and communicates one idea. They are not availability results, reservations or indications of official approval.
TRLNZ
Combines a compact trailer abbreviation with a New Zealand reference.
TOWME
A conversational towing idea that uses five ordinary letters.
CAMP2
A camping direction with one digit that could carry a personal meaning.
HAULR
Removes one vowel from “hauler” while retaining a clear reading.
Match the idea to what you tow
A caravan, boat trailer, horse float and work trailer each suggest different vocabulary. Start with the purpose people recognise, then add a name or initial only if the result remains clear. One focused idea is stronger than several compressed labels.
For a family caravan, a small travel or holiday reference may feel right. For a work trailer, a trade nickname or initials may be more useful. Avoid presenting the plate as a load rating, certification mark or official operating instruction.
Five characters rewards restraint
Trailer personalised identifiers are limited to five letters or numbers. Reserve room for an abbreviation such as TRL or TOW only when it adds meaning; otherwise a complete short word or set of initials may be cleaner.
Spaces and punctuation are not part of the generated identifier. Read the joined characters for accidental words and check letter-number lookalikes. A result that requires several separators in your head is unlikely to improve when mounted on the trailer.
One rear plate and an official check
NZTA says trailers and caravans use one car-sized plate displayed at the rear. The legal identifier is not the same thing as a decorative sign or the larger name sometimes painted on a caravan.
The generator applies the five-character ceiling and basic filters but cannot see live ownership records. Copy a shortlist and check each exact candidate with KiwiPlates before treating it as an option.

Frequently asked questions
How many characters can an NZ trailer personalised plate have?
Regulation 34 specifies a maximum of five letters, numbers or a mixture for a trailer personalised plate. The trailer preset enforces that maximum automatically.
Can this page generate caravan plate ideas?
Yes. Trailer / caravan is one preset because a towed caravan uses the trailer plate format. A self-propelled campervan or motorhome should use the campervan page instead.
Does a trailer need front and rear plates?
NZTA states that trailers and caravans have one car-sized plate displayed at the rear. Confirm installation and current plate requirements with the official sources.
Can I reserve a trailer plate through KiwiTools?
No. KiwiTools can request a current availability result, but reservation, approval and purchase are handled by KiwiPlates.
