Heat-pump dryers usually win the energy calculation

A heat-pump dryer recirculates heat rather than continually creating and discarding it. EECA describes these models as the clear efficiency winners among the main electric dryer types sold in New Zealand.

The trade is a higher purchase price and often a longer cycle. For a household drying six loads a week, lower kWh per cycle has many chances to recover that premium.

Use the energy label at your actual load count

The dryer label’s annual kWh assumes 52 uses. If the household runs four loads a week, multiply the per-cycle figure or scale the annual label by four. A one-load household should not buy on a high-use payback story.

Compare similar capacities and programmes. An overloaded small machine running twice is not equivalent to one correctly sized cycle.

Moisture and installation can decide the purchase
