Mondayisation depends on whether the weekend date would otherwise be a working day for that employee. An entitlement is not received twice.

Mondayisation moves the employee’s observance, not the historical date
Anzac Day remained 25 April in 2026, but because it fell on Saturday, a Monday-to-Friday employee observed the public holiday on Monday 27 April. The calendar did not rename Anzac Day; employment entitlements moved for that work pattern.
Waitangi Day follows the same weekend-transfer principle. Christmas, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and 2 January can use Monday and Tuesday to keep the two holidays separate.
Weekend workers do not receive the same day twice
If Saturday is otherwise a working day, the employee may observe the holiday on its actual Saturday date. They do not then collect a second public holiday on Monday.
This is why a workplace cannot apply one Mondayisation answer to every person. Begin with each employee’s otherwise-working-day pattern.

Shop trading rules are a different calendar
Employment New Zealand notes that Mondayisation does not move restricted shop-trading days. A Mondayised employment entitlement does not turn the Monday into Anzac morning or Easter Sunday for trading-law purposes.
Keep payroll, opening hours and holiday events as separate checks. One observed date should not be copied into three systems without reading the rules.
