The annual iwi river journey, Tira Hoe Waka, will take place on the Whanganui River from 5 to 19 January 2027. Many of the huts and campsites along the Whanganui Journey will have closures in place during this time. Goat monitoring teams are present in the Matemateaonga, Heao and area to the true right of Mangapurua stream from the 1–31 October 2026. First published on 29 September 2026.
