Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
Follow the Beveridge Track markers from the trailhead. This gravel track winds through beautiful native bush, with a mostly gentle gradient. Along the way, you’ll pass the historic Monkey Drive Tunnel, built in 1901 to carry a water pipe from the Upper Nihotupu Dam to a pump station in Western Springs. Enjoy sweeping views of the Manukau Harbour and Lower Nihotupu Dam as you go. Be sure to visit the Arataki Visitor Centre. The striking pou (carved post) at the entrance stands as a guardian of Arataki, and inside you’ll find whakairo (traditional carvings), exhibitions, and engaging nature displays. The Beveridge Track is a shared-use trail. Cyclists should be prepared to dismount on steeper sections and always give way to walkers. When combined with the Exhibition Track, it offers a safe and scenic walking and family cycling route from Titirangi to the Arataki Visitor Centre.
