Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
The Exhibition Drive Track begins beside the Watercare reservoir. There is parking available here, but it’s a popular spot and the car park can fill quickly. The track follows a wide, compacted gravel surface and is mostly flat, making it ideal for walking, running, and cycling. Originally built as a tramway to lay the pipeline from the Upper Nihotupu Dam to the city, Exhibition Drive was later widened into a road, opening the Waitākere Ranges to recreation pursuits. Keep an eye out for information posts along the way. They highlight some of the intriguing, often-overlooked features of Exhibition Drive’s history and surroundings. At the turnaround point, enjoy impressive views over the Lower Nihotupu Reservoir and Manukau Harbour. If you're keen to keep exploring, continue along the Beveridge to Arataki Track to reach the Arataki Visitor Centre.
