The 8.6 km Frankton Arm Walkway is mostly flat and wheelchair friendly (although there is a short steep section at Battery Hill). Beginning at Queenstown Gardens, it follows the edge of Lake Whakatipu all the way to Frankton, offering stunning views along the way. From Frankton, follow the signs to the historic Kawarau Falls Bridge, which became pedestrian-only in 2018. This is where Lake Whakatipu flows into the Kawarau River—it's a great spot to pause and admire the crystal-clear waters below. From here you can return the way you came, or continue along the Kelvin Peninsula Track to the Kelvin Heights Sculpture Trail and Jack's Point Track .
This is a shared use track - expect wheelchairs, pushchairs, walkers, and cyclists. There are public toilets at the Queenstown Gardens and at Frankton Beach. Sections suitable for wheelchair users: Queenstown to Frankton, there is a short steep rise at Battery Hill and assistance may be needed depending on ability. Queenstown Gardens loop (note steep gradient by QLDC depot and steep gradient on Park Street connector). This trail is built and maintained by the Queenstown Trails Trust . Parking is available at the start of the Frankton Track either in the Queenstown Gardens or Park Street (some time limits apply). Use this link on Google Maps to help find your way there.
