Track description This lovely track starts and finishes at the Kiriwhakapapa campsite, which is a large grassy area with sheltered picnic tables, information panels and a toilet block. It then heads into an impressive stand of redwood trees, before winding through native bush. Although the track is undulating and steep in places, there aren’t too many long grunts up hill, and is great for children. It is often muddy and slippery, especially on the western side, so wear good trail shoes or tramping boots. For a longer walk, continuing up the old tram track towards Mikimiki Road is an interesting walk through bush and along the stream, which is often a highlight for kids. Be prepared for wet feet, however! Getting there It’s about 25 minutes from Masterton. From State Highway 2, turn onto Kiriwhakapapa Road until you reach the campsite. The road is narrow but paved. Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there. Helpful resources Find tips, guides and how-to videos to help you prepare for your walk at mountainsafety.org.nz
