The walk to Marian Falls starts with crossing a swing bridge over the Hollyford River. From here continue through rainforest on an easy and mostly flat track and you will start to get views over Marian Creek. After about 10 minutes walking there is a wooden viewing platform with fantastic views over the Marian Falls. This is a great short walking stop on a day trip to Milford Sound. Beyond the boardwalk the track continues up to Lake Marian on the Lake Marian Track . This is an advanced tramping track with the terrain being steep and rocky in places.
There is a long drop toilet at the car park. Dogs are not permitted in Fiordland National Park Only attempt to go beyond this section of the Marian Falls track if you are prepared for a longer journey in alpine conditions. The next section becomes more difficult and requires advanced level of experience. There are also avalanche paths to consider so understanding the current weather conditions and alerts is essential.
The Marian Falls car park is about 1km down the Hollyford Road. From Te Anau take the Milford Road (SH 94) past the Divide and turn off at the Lower Hollyford Rd junction. The Marian Carpark is about 1 km down this road with car parks on both the left and right. The distance from Te Anau is 87km and allow an hour ten minutes for driving to the start of the track. The Hollyford road is sealed to the Marian Carpark. Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there.
