Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
This walk begins at the end of Lindemann Road and can be enjoyed in either direction. Pass through a closed gate and kauri hygiene station, then reach a junction about 40 meters in. From here, you have two options: Left: A steep, one-hour climb up a ridge to reach the forested heights. Right: The gently ascending Lindemann Pack Track, a scenic route offering views, streams, diverse vegetation, and remnants of old kauri dams. For an easier route, take the right-hand track, which initially climbs a short spur before leveling out. About 3 hours and 30 minutes in, a junction to the Cashmore Clearing Track leads to a kauri dam site, where only the bed log remains. Another 25 minutes brings you to a small shelter and campsite. Return via the main track to Lindemann Road carpark, enjoying excellent views of Tauranga and nearby offshore islands from the ridge.
Scrub all soil off shoes and gear. Use cleaning stations. Always stay on the track.
This track is at the end Lindemann Road off SH2, just north of Katikati. Use this location on Google Maps to help find your way there.
