Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
Starting from the visitor centre carpark, this short walk, suitable for buggies and wheelchairs, takes you along the start of the Avalanche Peak Track, heading over a little stone bridge where you can see Avalanche Creek Waterfall. From here you can continue up the path to a viewing platform closer to the waterfall. Be aware, though, that this involves steps, so is not well-suited to buggies or wheelchairs. The walk then heads down to the main road at the Arthur’s Pass Chapel. From inside the Chapel, check out the view of the waterfall through the altar window frames. Finish by walking along the footpath to where you started.
The walk starts opposite the Arthur's Pass Visitor Centre, 104 West Coast Road. Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there.
