Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
This 1-2 hour return trip starts at either Tui Crescent or Kakariki Grove; follow the Kohekohe Walk until you reach signage for the Parata Track, this is where the steep climb begins on an easy to follow track. The track ends at the lookout point and this is where the Te Au Track begins to create a loop track which takes to 3-4 hours total from Hui Street, otherwise return the way you came. There is a toilet at the start of the track, next to a bike rack.
Dogs are allowed on this track but must wear a leash The track can be quite steep and good shoes are necessary especially after rain as some sections can become muddy or slippery There is moderate to good cellphone coverage
Start this walk at Tui Crescent in Waikanae, the entrance is sign posted. Follow the Kohekohe Walk until you reach a sign pointing towards the Parata Track. Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there.
