Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
From the Ngāti Ruanui Stratford Mountain House follow the Waingongoro Track a short way before turning on to the Patea Loop Track and enjoying a gentle uphill climb in this forest of pahautea/mountain cedar. Cross Pembroke Road and descend through this lush green forest back to the Mountain House. A fun introduction to the mountain's tracks which is great for kids.
The Patea Loop Track is located in Te-Papakura-o-Taranaki, just 15 minutes from Stratford. Park in the carpark across the road from Mountain House. Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there.
