Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
This track passed through pine forest and gorse before entering the ngahere (bush). The trail crosses the Rapurapu stream eight times, making for wet feet early on, but the track grade is easy so it is suitable for families if there hasn't been heavy rain prior. Please stick to the boardwalk to view the kauri trees to avoid trampling the tree roots. Return the way you came.
Clean your footwear, tyres and equipment before and after visiting our kauri forests. If you are walking your dog, you should also make sure you clean their paws. Use cleaning stations every time you pass one while you are walking in a park. Stay on the tracks and keep off kauri roots. Stay away from closed tracks. Don't remove soil from, or bring soil into, areas with kauri trees.
Approximately 4 km down SH29 past the Kaimai Summit, heading toward the Waikato side, there’s an unmarked gravel road on the left. This road leads to a parking area where the track begins. Use this location on Google Maps to help find your way there.
