Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
This short family-friendly track meanders through stunning ancient Rimu and Rātā forests and boasts great river views along the way. The track takes you across a swing bridge suspended high above the Hutt River, then winds its way downstream towards the river gorge. You'll then return via the Flume Bridge and a gravel road.
The trail can be accessed from the Kai campground on Waterworks Road. Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there. There are regular bus and train services to Upper Hutt and the surrounding area. However you will need to drive to the Waterworks Road entrance.
