Starting at Cape Reinga this 5 km track descends first to the beautiful Sandy Bay shoreline before climbing to some incredible views and heading towards Tapotupotu. Whilst previously a good track for families staying at Tapotupotu campsite, the track is no longer accessible from that side due to storm damage. The track ends at Te Paki Stream. Tapotupotu campsite remains open.
This is a special cultural place so please keep to the path and please refrain from eating. It can be very windy here, so consider taking an extra layer. Toilet facilities are located at the carpark. No dogs. Eastern sections of Te Paki Coastal Track are closed due to storm damage, check the 'Alerts' tab.
Once you’re in Kaitaia, it’s easy to think you’re near the very top of the North Island. However, you still have over 100km to get to Cape Reinga. During holidays, this road can have a lot of traffic on it. Please take care. The turn off for Te Paki Coastal Track is shortly after the car park heading East. Gates are closed from 8.30pm – 7am.
