Essential preparation for Waipakihi Middle Range Route
This track starts by following Umukarikari Track to Waipakihi Hut and then progressing to the Middle Range tops, up a steep ridge through the bush. It reaches the bush line at around 1300m, then continues to climb to the high point at 1475 m. From here on there is no track or marked route. Strong navigation skills are required.
