The annual iwi river journey, Tira Hoe Waka, will take place on the Whanganui River from 5 to 19 January 2027. Many of the huts and campsites along the Whanganui Journey will have closures in place during this time. Mangapurua Track is closed to cyclists from Mangapurua Trig to Whanganui River until Labour weekend (24 October, 2026). Mangapurua Track remains open to the Trig. Kaiwhakauka Track remains open but proceed with caution as the track is wet and there may be minor slips and windfall present. First published on 2 June 2026.
