Upper Mangatāwhiri Campground This is an all-modes campground. You can stay in a tent, motorhome, campervan, caravan, 5-wheeler, bus, or campermatic/pop-top camper under 10 m. There is a flush toilet available on site. Vehicle access depends on ground conditions. If it is dry, you may park your vehicle next to your tent. If conditions deteriorate over winter, the campground may close to vehicles. In that case, you can park in the main car park and carry your gear to your campsite. Bookings are essential and can be made up to six months in advance. Once your booking is confirmed, you’ll receive a combination code to open the locked access gate. The main park gates are open 6am–9pm during daylight savings, and 6am–7pm at other times. Please keep your campsite clean and tidy during your stay and when you leave. There are no bins or rubbish facilities, so all rubbish and recycling must be taken out with you. Dogs, pets, and other animals are not permitted at any time. Fires are also strictly prohibited. Getting there: Drive through Hunua Village and continue for 8 km before turning left onto Moumoukai Road. Follow this road to its end, where it becomes A R A Drive at the park entrance. From here, descend into Mangatāwhiri Valley and continue straight for another 2 km. Signage will direct you to turn right into the Upper Mangatāwhiri Campground. Use this location on Google Maps to help find your way there.
