Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
The Cameron Valley’s entrance features a striking gorge with towering bluffs and a cascading waterfall. Starting from the Cameron Creek car park, the track climbs through small bluffs before sidling above the gorge—some sections are steep and exposed. Beyond the gorge, the track crosses a large, unstable slip before reaching the river, about two hours from the car park. After crossing the river, the track re-enters the forest and continues to the south branch, emerging onto a grassy river flat. The route is unmarked across the flat, but Cameron Hut sits on the true left at the southern end.
This area has terrain that can produce avalanches that cross the track, usually from May into November.
Located an hour north of Wānaka on SH6, this track begins on your right 2.4km after passing the Blue Pools Track. Use this location on Google Maps to help find your way there.
