Explore the area
Explore the track route and surrounding area before you set out.
Begin at the suspension bridge over Wairoa Stream, near the car park on Wairoa Reservoir Access Road (off Moumoukai Road). Take the Suspension Bridge Track through lush forest to a lookout platform above Wairoa Reservoir. Proceed to the Wairoa Cossey Track junction, turn right, and follow it back to the road. There's a great picnic area and public toilets on this route. Dogs are allowed on this track under control and on-leash, however must be kept away from the dam and water supply. To prevent the spread of kauri dieback, large sections of the Hūnua Ranges Regional Park are now closed. Please stay on the walking tracks, and follow the instructions to clean your shoes before and after your visit.
Visiting areas with healthy kauri trees Please make sure you follow these steps: Clean your footwear, tyres and equipment before and after visiting our kauri forests. If you are walking your dog, you should also make sure you clean their paws. Use cleaning stations every time you pass one while you are walking in a park. Stay on the tracks and keep off kauri roots. Stay away from closed tracks. Don't remove soil from, or bring soil into, areas with kauri trees.
Start at the iconic suspension bridge over Wairoa Stream. The bridge is located near the car park on the Wairoa Reservoir Access Road (off Moumoukai Road). Use this location in Google Maps to find your way there.
