Grassed campground at the foot of a hill with an open shelter surrounded by the stunning bush of the Pararaha Valley.
Camping here is tent-only. There is no vehicle access. A composting toilet is available on site. Bookings are essential and can be made up to six months in advance. The main park gates are open 6am–9pm during daylight savings, and 6am–7pm at other times. Please keep your campsite clean and tidy during your stay and when you leave. There are no bins or rubbish facilities, so all rubbish and recycling must be taken out with you. Dogs, pets, and other animals are not permitted at any time. Fires are strictly prohibited. Getting there: From Whatipū: Walk the Gibbons Muir Whatipū Beach Track Loop to the campground. Please follow all signage. Walk duration: approx. 2.5 hours. From Karekare: Start at the Karekare Beach car park. Head south, cross the bridge to Pōhutukawa Glade, and follow the track to the beach. Walk around Karekare Point along Whatipū Beach at low to mid-tide only. Continue south along the beach, head inland through the dunes, and follow the orange markers onto the back dune track, then follow the sign to Pararaha Valley Campground. Walk duration: approx. 2.5 hours. Use Google Maps to help find your way to Whatipū or to Karekare Beach .
