Treefall in Mount Thomas Conservation Area

Recent storms have caused significant treefall on tracks - such as from the top of Wooded Gulley Track/Summit Track heading towards Bob's Camp Bivvy, and down through the top half of Ridge Track. Some of the orange direction markers have been affected and may be pointing in the wrong direction. Extreme caution is required - not suitable for inexperienced walkers. Slip on Wooded Gully Track

There is a marked slip site near the top of Wooded Gully Track, close to the summit junction. Visitors should take care due to loose footing and uneven ground requiring navigation. Do not stop within this area. First published on 14 September 2026.

Areas of early low cloud otherwise fine. Isolated afternoon showers, mainly about the foothills. Northeasterlies, then northwesterly from afternoon but light winds south of Rakaia River then becoming southerly there at night.
